The hunger games: chapter 1

from the very beginning we are introduced to Katniss Everdeen.

Katniss wakes up in a bed, and we learn quickly that today is the day of the reaping. We wuickly get introduced with her sister Primrose (or Prim) and her mother. We learn that Katniss lives in a place called District 12, nicknamed the Seam, that is home primarily to coal miners. Katniss’s father was a coalminer, but he died in an explosion five years ago. Katniss hunts in the woods for food, even though it’s illegal. She’s nearly an expert with the bow and arrow. Then she meets with Gale, her hunting partner. By the end of the day, they have a huge pile of food: fish, greens, and strawberries. The two go to the black market, to sell or trade some of the food. After a while they get to what is called “the reaping”. It’s the time where every citizen above 11 years old has their name written on a piece of paper and put into a box. If you get picked, you are sent of to the hunger games; a place where the picked ones survive and fight to the death. The winner is awarded withh food for their district. There is a maximum of 2 people per district. So 24 people will fight eachother to survive.
